OH! NO! NOT PALIN AGAIN
Written by Countess du Ruel

Just when we thought we were rid of Sarah Palin, she's back, groans the Countess du Ruel. And louder than ever!  She's back with her mouth wide open and her finger waving accusing McCain's aides of keeping her "bottled up" during the presidential campaign.  If she calls that "bottled up," I shudder to think what she would have been like "un-corked!"

Sarah Palin has just been paid $1.25m (£750,000) for her autobiography Going Rogue, in which she settles a few old scores.  As we all know "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." This 413 page tome has an initial print run of 1.5 million copies. Why it is already on the best-seller list for weeks is a mystery to me, but it would seem that America's fascination with the "hockey mom" continues.  Apparently, it's already outselling Dan Brown and Stephen King.  Sarah will be able to afford many a trip to Neiman Marcus now!  And to think that fifteen months ago she was the obscure governor of Alaska expounding born-again, trailer park ideas.  I hope it won't give her any fancy ideas about running again in the next Republican primary.  But I fear this is exactly the case.

McCain and the Republican worthies must be kicking themselves for ever unleashing her on the world stage.  In Going Rogue Palin spews her anger about being gagged by McCain's aides from speaking to the press.  Well, one could hardly blame them!  What an ignorant candidate she sounded when she was allowed to speak.

She claims not to know who was paying for all the clothes that she and her family were given (costing £150,000) during the campaign.  These plus the huge bills she ran up on clothes, hair and make-up created a controversy that has continued to haunt her.  Good! She describes her daughter's pregnancy, but never mentions the estranged father, Levi Johnston, who recently posed nude except for a hockey stick in Playgirl Magazine. Levi has been threatening to spill the beans about Sarah.  Let's hear it, Levi!

Sarah Palin is at daggers drawn with the Washington political class.  Since her damaging interview with CBS evening news anchor, Katie Couric, the press has been waiting for another embarrassing faux pas.  (Palin describes Katie Couric as condescending, biased and "badgering.") I'm sure her next gaffe won't be long in coming, probably the next time she opens her mouth.

The latest Gallop Poll shows 69% of Republicans in favour of her re-entering the political maelstrom and 72% of Democrats against.  Her stance as an anti-abortionist and her support of offshore oil drilling have alienated many, but hunting moose and baking cookies for your family still makes you a cultural icon in the US.

I agree with those who think she's an unguided missile. In Vanity Fair Levi accuses her of being a bad mother, a bad wife, and not really a hockey mom.  Whatever else she may not or may be, she'll be rich.  With any luck she'll decide not to bother with politics.  Let's hope and pray that happens!
