The torch handover at the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday featured a red bus, a lollypop lady and umbrellas. But what kinds of history and imagery must we draw on if we're to make the London Olympics as memorable as Bejing? asks Atticus.
The handover ceremony used London icons well (and gave plenty of forewarning of rain!) but we
must surely find other ways than buses and rain to show what London's all about when the
2012 Olympics arrive. Do we showcase London's great history or its vibrant present as a world centre for business and culture – or somehow attempt to link the two?
