Two nights ago my friend Alicia's twenty-five year old son Orlando was attacked while taking money out of a cash-point at Tesco's on Vauxhall Bridge Road. In London today you have to watch your back at all times, warns Countess du Ruel.
Alicia had been worried for months about street crime and fearful for her son, but she kept telling herself that he was sensible and the worst wouldn't happen. Then it did. Unfortunately, London is no longer safe, no matter how sensible you are. This is especially true for young men.
Alicia's son was pinned to the ground and fought off the assailant, who thank god, didn't pull out a knife. He lost his phone and his money, but not his life. He is one of the lucky ones. Now with a recession on the way, there will be more petty crime, and more need to watch your back!
