NO ONE BELIEVES THAT LONDON IS SAFE

No one believes that London is the ‘feel good' city that it once was, where we all felt secure in our homes and on our streets, complains Mrs. M And no amount of ‘tut-tut' or denial by city officials or the government will convince us.  We know when innocent sixteen year olds are stabbed in Islington and promising young French students are murdered in their homes in grotesque crimes, that no one is safe here.

Mrs. M

Thank God that Cherie Blair spoke out.  She is worried about her children, too.  When will the city and the government stop prevaricating and DO SOMETHING TO STOP THIS CRIME WAVE?  The other day Boris, our new mayor, told us not to worry that London is safe.  And pigs can fly.  Do these people not read the papers?  Cherie was saying what everyone is thinking, what everyone is worrying about:  being at the wrong place at the wrong time.  We're all worrying about the safety of our children if they live and work in London.  Parents are scared, children are scared.  Let's stop the fear!

It's simple enough.  Too many young and irresponsible youngsters are carrying knives.  This has to stop.  Enough is enough.  Bravo to the hundreds who took to the street to protest against the pointless death of Ben Kinsella.  And the whole time the government is saying that crime is down.  As if that helps anything or gives anyone peace of mind.

The police should be back on the streets, providing re-assurance and preventing crime.  We have to get knives off the street.  Like the gun amnesty there should be a knife amnesty.  Stop and Search should be escalated, and those with knives should be prosecuted.  Police should not be wasting time filling out forms every time they approach a member of the public.  They could weed out the guns because they could stop and search more people.  The government is putting lives in danger by all this procedural reporting.  Stopping street crime should become the Number One Objective, top of the government agenda.  The government and authorities seem nervous to speak of what's happening on our streets.  Why?  They are ignoring genuine public alarm.

And as far as the horrible-serial-murderer-type outrage of the killing of two beautiful 23-year old French scientists, it makes us all heart-broken for their families and terrified that London will never again be safe!
