Could it be that these ‘love matches' were purely financial in the first place? We've all been made to feel insecure and inadequate by the leggy, couturier-dressed beauties who lunch well, dress-well, and live idle, pampered lives travelling in private jets to destination spas. Their every whim is only a check book away. Funny to think they are a victim of the credit crunch, and flee before their lifestyle takes a down-turn. I'm sure there are still a few hanging on as the top 0.01% in Britain have seen their incomes rise by more than 500% over a generation.

Since redundancies have been rumoured, there has been a 300 per cent increase in divorce inquiries. Maybe the streets aren't paved with gold after all!
