SAT NAV UP TO OLD TRICKS

Sat Navs are still up to their old blunders, groans Mrs. M. So many lorries have been directed down unsuitable short cuts that the Dept. of Transport has drawn up a new sign, a lorry with a red line through it, for drivers who don't speak English, or those who use no common sense.

Sat Nav producers are being encouraged to develop ‘truck friendly' routes and to factor in local information about roads for large vehicles. There is now a virtual plague of problems and mishaps created by lorries on country lanes and accidents involving lorries hitting low and narrow bridges. In one case a car drove down railway tracks which were mistaken by sat navs as roads!

These clever time saving devices seem to be more trouble than they are worth!
