Britain’s largest ever public sculpture is planned for the Kent Countryside, writes Atticus. Over twice the size of the Angel of the North (and the Statue of Liberty) five proposals by leading artists have been unveiled.
The sculpture will put the (yet to be built) town of Ebbsfleet on the map, and welcome Eurostar travellers to Blighty, being one of the first things they will see – atop a hill – when they emerge from the chunnel. The five proposals include a 33-times life-size white horse by Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, a colossal metal latticework structure of polyhedrons by Richard Deacon and a cast of a Victorian house at the top of a hill of rubble by Rachel Whiteread. A panel of art experts and the sculpture’s patrons will decide the winning design in the autumn. Take a look at the designs here and see what you think.
