The die is cast for London and all we can do is wait, says Atticus. Whatever the outcome in the mayoral election, it’s been a disappointing campaign about the cult of personality rather than policy.
The election has driven a wedge through London. Rather than voting for Boris or Ken, people seem to have been voting against the personality they most dislike. Many dislike Ken so vote for Boris, and, equally (well, we’ll see when the results come out), many dislike Boris and so vote for Ken. Rather than “Will we get what we want?” it’s more a case of “Will we not get what we don’t want?”
