Galaxy Book Awards: Isn’t anything sacred? What a pity that literary achievement has been dumbed down to celebrity awards presented by Richard and Judy in a mock Oscar format full of self-congratulation, writes Mrs. M.
These televised award dinners are packed with the literary world, complimenting each other. It’s embarrassing to listen to. No matter how humble an author tries to sound, it comes across as phoney. These corporately sponsored venues are hyped like ‘Come Dancing!’ Next it will be Celebrity Authors in the Congo! Who can write the best Robinson Crusoe?
Literature is supposed to be a fine art. This is turning it into a game show. Why must literature be a competition?
What would Flaubert, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Chekov, Hardy, Hugo think about these carryings on? SHAME!
