THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Daylesford Organic Cafe and Restaurant

Fans of Daylesford Organic Farmshop in the Costwolds won't be disappointed by the Bamford's latest venture: three floors of irresistible Daylesford goodies in the plush heart of Pimlico. The very best of the Daylesford estate in Gloucestershire - and Lady Bamford's achingly good taste - is at last available in London.

The ground floor is a haven of immaculately packaged cakes, seasonal vegetables, divine cheeses (don't miss their award-winning Cheddar), chutneys, meat and bread baked on site. Upstairs is a lifestyle junkie's dream - cashmere teddy bears, leather thermos flasks, organic washing up liquid, and yoga bags to die for. The basement houses the discreet kitchens and a well-stocked wine cellar, including wine and champagne from the Bamford's vineyard in France.

Shop for a dinner party, take away a salad for lunch, pick up the perfect present for the trickiest of hostesses, it's all an enormous pleasure. And it isn't just a shop: you can have breakfast (fluffy croissants), lunch (soup, salad, cheese, bread) and tea (sensational flapjacks, fresh mint infusions) at the café's communal table, which runs down the middle of the store.

This luxurious emporium does urban chic just as well as its sister farmshop does rural elegance. Painted wood and barn-style beams are replaced by great slabs of stark marble and a twisted willow stair rail. Gone are the muted greens and creams of the countryside; in London it's all as white, fresh and clean as a dentist's surgery.

Daylesford Organic treats don't come cheap and the service can be a bit patchy (let's put that down to teething problems), but if you go along for a peek, you'll find you want to linger.

Daylesford is my new best friend. I always find a treat there and it's a fun venue for meeting friends, esp. for breakfast, which is the best in town. Pimlico is looking up with Daylesford here. Thanks!
